Healing Elixirs for Holiday Stress

Well, here we go into the final stretch of the season and boy are the holidays are a cauldron of inflammatory elements: stress, sugar and alcohol. With age, these things seem to leave a longer imprint on my body. Is it this the way it is with you?  Even my sheets leave their tracks – in the morning, a trail of patterns and creases decorate my skin, proof of my tangled, nocturnal encounters with them.

We all need a proactive strategy to counteract these forces, so I thought I would share a few of the healing elixirs I have come across in my search to quell the inflammation in my own body. Hopefully your your cells will be swathed in protection and you will emerge New Year’s Day unscathed.

Turmeric Tea

Turmeric has powerful anti-aging benefits and is widely consumed on the island of Okinawa, the hub of longevity. I make this at home and consume it as often as possible.

1 teaspoon grated fresh Turmeric

1 teaspoon grated fresh Ginger

Fresh squeezed juice of one Lemon

Combine in a mug and add hot water.

Fresh Turmeric has an earthy and spicy taste so you may want to add honey to the blend.

Another fabulous elixir is a glass of  green juice brimming with soothing anti-oxidants and nutrients to calm your nerves.

On the supplement front, I have discovered a few things that have given me an overall sense of well being and decreased the rusty feeling I had in my joints. Fish Oil and Meriva-500, which is loaded with the anti-oxidant superstar Curcumin.

These two are new additions to my regime and I have noticed a huge difference. Boswellia is an herb with anti-inflammatory benefits. It helps to detoxify joints which can act as reservoirs for environmental toxins and stress. I learned this from Ester Blum, author of Eat, Drink and Be Gorgeous. MSM contains sulfur, a naturally occurring organic compound that is essential for every cell in the human body, and helps to detoxify the body on a cellular level.

I hope these suggestions help you navigate the holidays in good health. To date, I have not found an anti-dote to my sheets.

Wishing you and yours a happy and non-inflammatory holiday.
