Ignite Your Inner Healing Hive: Glutathione Benefits

Through the course of my recent health struggles, I discovered glutathione, an amazing healing agent that I want to share, in case you haven’t heard of it. It was something I was unfamiliar with and it sky rocketed my body’s ability to recover from the stress.

Dr. Mark Hyman states glutathione “is critical for immune function and controlling inflammation. It is the master detoxifier and the body’s main antioxidant, protecting our cells and making our energy metabolism run well.”

When my health bottomed out last year, this was one of the first things my naturopath recommended for my healing regiment. I underwent weekly IV treatments that included this amazing anti-oxidant, and I am on a maintenance routine of injections that include glutathione.

Consuming foods that support glutathione production is critical. Good sources include sulfur rich foods and bio-active whey protein.

Apparently it is not a supplement that one can take.  From Experiencelife.com:

One reason that glutathione wallows in relative obscurity is that, unlike vitamin C or E, it isn’t easily shoehorned into a supplement you can swallow. “With glutathione it’s not that easy,” says David Perlmutter, MD, FACN, ABIHM, author of Power Up Your Brain: The Neuroscience of Enlightenment (Hay House, 2011).

That’s because to succeed as an oral supplement, a nutrient must be able to wiggle through the intestinal wall and into the bloodstream, he explains. Otherwise it’s doomed to be destroyed in the gut. Here is where glutathione’s size works against it. A large molecule, called a tripeptide, glutathione cannot sneak through the intestinal wall intact.

The best way to optimize it in your system is by supporting its production through diet, exercise and the supplements Alpha-lipoic acid, N-acetyl-cysteine, Selenium and Methylation nutrients.

I also use Apex Energetics Oxicell cream on a daily basis. Full disclosure: this stuff stinks. If you add a few drops of essential oil it will help mask the strange odor.

If your health is compromised due to stress or traumatic circumstances, you might want to explore the myriad of ways to invite this anti-oxidant into your inner eco-system.

Despite our best efforts, our bodies are up against incredibly destructive internal and environmental forces. Optimal health requires a new kind of thinking: surround yourself with a hive of healing influences.

How do you take care of yourself and optimize your healing quotient?
