Being Present: One Thousand Healing Moments

I heard a statistic that, on average, people look at their cell phones a thousand times a day and I find this fascinating. It makes me wonder what we are looking for on our phones: Validation? Connection? Belonging? A way to look busy or feel important?

I’m part of the generation that grew up pre-cell phone, and I’m trying to remember what we did with ourselves back then. As a child, our house had one phone, an answering machine and no call waiting. You actually got a busy signal if the other person was on their phone, because they were.. busy.

Does the busy signal still have a job?

Imagine harnessing the energy that goes into looking at your phone one thousand times a day (if you do this, of course) and channeling it for your greater good. Every time you are tempted to “just have a look,” do something radically different:

Tell your child you love him.

Inhale a life affirming breath, all the way down to your toes.

Write “I am full of love and healing energy” in your journal.

Hug your beloved, or a friend, or a co-worker.

Say to yourself, “Be Present.”

Smile.

One thousand times a day is a lot of time to be looking at a device that is essentially a distraction from being present right here in the moment. Cell phones have their place, but just for today, I dare you to resist the urge.

I have to admit, it’s hard to resist.

By day’s end, I think it is quite possible your soul will be drenched in the gorgeous frequency of the energy you chose to focus on, and you will be a thousand times more blessed, connected and healed.

Wishing you one thousand offerings of radiant, transformative healing.

Great observation, Dianna, about how distracting phones are today. I’ve never understood two people who go out to dinner and both spend the majority of the time looking at their phones. Why bother going out? And, as you say, if you calculate how many opportunities to ‘connect’ are lost, it’s massive! Heck, I remember refusing to ever have a beeper because I figured I wasn’t a doctor so no client of mine would die before I got to work the next day and got the message to call back. How far (backwards) we’ve come! 😉

Yes we are going backwards aren’t we Sharon?! Very astute observation. I am always amused by watching people together while they are all on their phones. We are so very disconnected. Appreciate your insight. Thank you, xo
