The Benefits of Turmeric: An Anti-Inflammatory Superstar

Three years ago, I wish I had been more aware of creating an optimal inner eco-system for personal sustainability. Quite frankly, just getting up every day was an accomplishment, so the unchecked rampant stress took its toll and now I am repairing the damage. Under duress, I think it is important that we are keenly attuned to our bodies and do everything in our power to raise our healing quotient.

This might be a good strategy for life in general.

I am not a nutritionist or a doctor, I’m just a curious traveler on a journey, and someone who asks an extraordinary amount of questions. I can’t say for sure whether or not my auto-immune ailments were brought on by the shock and awe of what happened, but I now have to manage these conditions, so I am always seeking solutions.

Which brings me to the health benefits of turmeric — a superstar in the anti-inflammatory world. In studies, it has been shown to have dramatic effects on cancer, arthritis and dementia. According my naturopath, it is also showing positive effects on Hashimoto’s disease, one of my ailments.

This is raw turmeric at Whole Foods. It is the only market where I have seen it.

Raw turmeric has an earthy, spicy flavor and a vibrant orange color that will stain your hands. It is a bit labor intensive to peel and grate, but so worth the effort.

I created this tonic and drink it most days first thing in the morning. It hasn’t been road tested in a lab, it is just the by-product of my playing around in the kitchen.

To make, grate approximately one teaspoon of ginger and turmeric and combine with the juice of one lemon.

Add eight ounces of hot water and enjoy.

According to Dr. Weil, turmeric tea has powerful anti-aging benefits. On the island of Okinawa, the healthiest population in the world, many residents consume it regularly.

If you are feeling lazy, I found this product called Apex Energetics K-75 Turmero Active the other day, which has been sweetened and is very palatable straight out of the bottle.

Give the tonic a try and let me know if you like it. I hope it helps to balance your inner eco-system so you can thrive.
