Strength and Love: Homecoming by Linda Reuther

Today is a short and sweet post. Honestly, I saw this somewhere and wrote it down but have not been able to find out much about it. I am not sure if it is a complete poem or part of a larger work, but I love it.

There were times when I just felt so small and alone that laying down and surrendering to the support of the Earth was all I could do. This poem describes the strength and love that lies beneath our feet.

Homecoming

And the Great Mother said:

Come my child and give me all that you are.

I am not afraid of your strength and darkness, of your fear and pain.

Give me your tears. They will be my rushing rivers and roaring oceans.

Give me your rage. It will erupt into my molten volcanoes and rolling thunder.

Give me your tired spirit. I will lay it to rest in my soft meadows.

Give me your hopes and dreams. I will plant a field of sunflowers and arch rainbows in the sky.

You are not too much for me. My arms and heart welcome your true fullness.

There is room in my world for all of you, all that you are.

I will cradle you in the boughs of my ancient redwoods and the valleys of my gentle rolling hills.

My soft winds will sing you lullabies and soothe your burdened heart.

Release your deep pain.

You are not alone and you have never been alone.

Goes along with another devotion I read today reminding us that we are not alone.

I think that is one of the truths that is core to how we look at life. Knowing whatever happens to us, we are not alone. The great I am is just a whisper away.

So true Anne although it is easy to get swept away in feeling alone. You are right – it is just a whisper, or very deep breath, away. Thank you. xo

I have written a novel, and used this poem as the ‘frontispiece’ for introducing Part III
I want to get her permission to use the piece, but I haven’t really ‘found’ her yet. Can you help me get in touch?
    Thank you for your time.

I am looking for the original publication of this poem. Would you know where I can find it? Is Linda Reuther an unpublished poet and was this just posted to a forum of some kind? Thank you. Martha
