The Super Juice Me Cleanse: Reflections on 28 Days of Juicing

I am incredibly happy to report that I completed the Super Juice Me cleanse. Twenty-eight days of juice, juice and more juice.

In case you decide to embark on this kind of adventure, I thought I would share my experience, which was an interesting and worthwhile way to find out more about the inner workings of my body. I tend to be impulsive and had I spent more time researching the entirety of what a twenty-eight day juice cleanse entailed in shopping and clean up, I might not have done it.

I am glad I just dove in and took the challenge.

I suffered mightily on days two and three were because of the detox headache. The pounding was unbearable, but the thought that toxins were cycling out of my system kept me going. I did not want to go backwards.

Day nine was tough because I realized I was only one-third of the way through the journey, which meant another seventy-six sessions of preparation and clean up.  I began to regard the juicer with contempt and almost cried.

People would say, “Oh, that sounds really hard,” but hard is relative, isn’t it? To me, fighting cancer would be hard. Losing a child in a senseless shooting would be soul-wrenchingly hard. The luxury of enjoying the juice of fresh fruits and vegetables everyday seems ridiculously easy.

For some reason, I had the tendency to get extremely hungry, so I availed myself of the option to eat an avocado with lemon and cracked pepper on many occasions and this seemed to do the trick.

As each day passed, a new benefit would reveal itself. I was secretly amazed by my willpower, because I don’t think I really believed I could do it. My body feels better without all the aches. I slept like a baby for the first time in the last four years. My mind is crystal clear and it seems easier to drop into meditation and find that sweet spot of solitude that can often be elusive. My skin is as clear as I have ever seen it.

These were my main reasons for doing the cleanse, so on that level it did not disappoint.

Most of the time I felt like my body was buzzing, which may have been my imagination, but when you see the color of these juices, they seem like a vibrating hive of healthy goodness.

Towards the end of the cleanse, I noticed I was absolutely exhausted morning and night. I came to the realization that I am not a carb-satiated human. My body does better on a balance of healthy protein and vegetables. I don’t regularly consume a lot of fruit either, so I think the sugar was a bit much for my system.

To remedy the fatigue, I exchanged a lot of the fruit with cucumber, celery, cauliflower and broccoli and increased the hemp protein powder that is used in some of the juice blends. This seemed to help a bit.

Super Juice Me guy Jason Vale is very likable and amusing. I loved his inspiring coaching videos on the App. I can’t compare this to any other cleanse, but I am hooked on the easy and delicious recipes.

Neither my doctor nor my chiropractor were thrilled about my doing this program, mainly due to the lack of protein. I actually had blood work done right in the middle, so I am curious to see what the numbers reveal. My next cleanse will follow Ayurvedic principles and consist of Kitchari, which is known as a perfect protein and, “The food of the Gods.” It is an entirely different way of ridding the body of toxins and I love the theory behind releasing trapped emotions.

More on that in the near future.

If you embark on the Super Juice Me program, I would love to hear about your experience. Always good to know what is, and isn’t, working for people on their healing journey.

Sending love.

Thank you for the review. I am also thinking of starting this 28-day plan soon. However I just wanted to know from you what kind of ingredients Jason Vale puts in the juices other than the fruits and vegetables. I know he says to use hemp protein powder, but is there anything else he says to add in, like spirulina, powergreens…etc. I’m on a tight budget so can’t afford everything. Thank you very much 🙂

Hi, I am 14 days in to the juice fast. I am very focused and haven’t cheated at all, doing everything to the letter. Today I’m struggling. I’ve got week 3 ahead of me & apparently that is the danger zone. There’s no way I’m going to give up though. I’m having visions of gorgeous food all the time. However, I thing the worse thing for me is the constant preparation, juicing & cleaning up. Really getting fed up with that. My fibromyalgia has virtually gone & I sleep every night really well. I used to sleep really badly and quite often be out of bed half the night. When I go through my credit card bill I think this is going to be more expensive than eating, but I wanted to get organic. If I was going to do this extreme plan I wanted to do it properly. Oh, and I’ve lost 8lbs so far. I don’t have much to lose so I’m very happy with that 🙂

Hey Jane, I’m on day 16 and totally recognise those things you’re talking about. I’m so bored of prepping and cleaning, I’m dreaming about real food, I’m also more hungry than I expected. The plan is ‘one size fits all’ how can I, an 18 stone man eat the same as a 12 stone woman?

HI Martin, I have been dreaming of food literally in my dreams almost every night and I am on day 15. I am also starting to get more hungry than in week 1 or week 2.

Same here, it’s the preparation and clean up that takes a long time and I must admit, I’m getting fed up with it too. But I tell myself that this will all be worth it and even though this may be considered as a drastic diet by some….I had to do something drastic, as I was really getting depressed about my weight and health. I’m on Day 15 and have lost 4.7 kilos/10.4lbs already, which I’m happy about so far 🙂 I do feel pretty exhausted though and there are times when I feel a dizzy and just want to eat something…..coz again I must admit, I do miss eating food. But again, knowing that the healthy drinks are doing me good is a great boost and that certainly keeps me going. My partner has been really supportive. I think my family have their reservations (being Greek and loving their food and all!) but they have been supportive too. I have dreams where I break the diet and eat something and I almost want to cry when I smell cooking, haha!…..but I know that I want to complete this, especially sticking to it this far.

    Hi All,

Day 17 and loving it! Haven’t felt the three week ‘DOOR’ and finding myself hungering juice, not the trash I used to eat! I feel alive and full of energy. My friends have noticed a spring in my step and my concentration levels are up. I haven’t a clue what I’ve lost, as I wanted to weigh in at the end. ‘Fat Sick and Nearly Dead’ was the film that inspired me to go for this challenge.
Clean up and prep no problem, as I’d rather be doing that than preparing a full dinner and cleaning all the greasy pans up afterwards. There’s some fab juices on it and some horrors, but all working for the good in my body, which drives me on. Over half way and seeing the end in sight, but intend to do Jason’s JJM plan afterwards, which is Juice for breakfast, Juice for lunch and dinner in the evening. Alternatively might do a few JMJ etc.

If possible, try to go organic. I for one don’t trust what the farmers and producers put into the ground and spray on the trees to encourage our veg and fruits to grow and keep insects off! I believe these things are the cause of many diseases in our bodies. Fortunately we have an organic farm we can pick our fruit and veg from and it’s reasonably priced.

Just knocked back my 12 o’clocker and raring to go…Thank you Jason Vale for this great course of nutrition!

I am day 11 having sampled the benefits of juicy mountain a couple of years ago. Prescribed 8 paracetamol a day by my doc for arthritic pain with a referral for hip replacements ( on hold ) I am painkiller free and moving about as I haven’t done for a year. I am having fresh ginger and turmeric shots too. Today I feel nausius and a bit dizzy as though I am going down with something……… I have taken to my bed.

I am on day 28 I feel great! I have lost 25-30 lbs not quite sure cause my scale was broken at the start. The final week I switched to the soup and juice because I started to get sick of all the sweet. Also, I’m in Maine and it’s January and some days below zero so something warm really helped me on this last week. The soups are delicious. I checked in with the support staff and they said for best results stick with the plan but that swapping over would be really healthy as well. I didn’t really struggle until day 7 and 8 and week three was tough but the half banana made the difference on those days. I am not doing the salad though so that I can feel truer to throw 28 day plan.

I am waiting for my juicer from amazon and superjuice me book so I can start the cleanse. I have to make a 200 mile round trip to pick up most of the fruits and veggies, as I want only organic. I was vegan for 3 years, then switched over to vegetarian the past two years; now back to vegan, so this is a good way to transition back I think. I am excited and a little anxious as well. I plan on doing this to the end!! I will post again once I get my juicer and get started.
