Stress Neutralizing Daily Green Smoothie Recipe December 6, 2013 • 3 Comments There is a certain pulse to the holiday season that seems to summon stress, and it is very easy to get caught up in the pressure to buy more and put on a happy face. It requires a very concerted effort to protect the precious resources of our mental and physical eco-systems. “We need to mount a stress response in order to preserve internal stability,” writes Dr. Gabor Maté in his brilliant book, When the Body Says No. In other words, we need to gather information and cultivate resources to mount a pro-active response to any potentially stressful environment, including the holidays. Unmonitored, chronic stress can devastate our biological and emotional systems. Dr. Maté goes on to say that, “Stress affects and involves virtually every tissue in the body,” which is a good reason to adopt a mindful approach to the holiday hoopla. Today, I thought I would share a recipe for an alkalizing drink to aid in combating inflammatory stress hormones and flood your physical being some well-deserved nutrient-rich love. It is quick, easy and I try to drink it every morning. Green Smoothie Recipe To make it, you will need the following ingredients: Kale (approximately one cup, Trader Joe’s sells it chopped and cleaned) 1 banana 1/2 an avocado 2 T ground flax seeds 2 T chia seeds 1-2 T coconut oil 1 cup of coconut water (add more or less depending on the consistency you like) Stevia or honey (optional, for sweetening) 1 cup ice Plus, I like to add ClearVite-PSF Supplement Powder, which is full of vitamins but not much protein. If you want a boost of protein, I suggest adding some Olympian Labs Pea Protein, vanilla flavored. Take all the ingredients and put them into the blender. It is hard to imagine that this concoction, Turns into this beautiful, green drink! Enjoy! This is one simple step you can take to boost your own healing quotient and counteract holiday stress.
