Super Healing Green Smoothie Recipe

Here is my favorite new smoothie. I am still experimenting with my food (as evidenced by all the recipes on this blog), because I truly believe that nutrition is an integral part of the healing equation. We cannot expect to feel good when are putting crap in our bodies, especially during times of stress, when adrenaline and cortisol are running amok.

Nutrient dense food is the first line of defense in protecting your brain and body, something I wish I had been aware of four years ago.

Spinach is one of the world’s healthiest foods. The benefits are enhanced when it has been steamed, because the body cannot breakdown the nutrients in raw form spinach. Heating it reduces the oxalic acid which blocks calcium absorption. I pour hot to boiling water over the spinach leaves and let them steam while I am collecting the other ingredients. If you don’t like the warm smoothie effect you can add frozen strawberries.

Coconut and avocado contain fat – an essential ingredient for healthy brain function.

You can’t imagine how fabulous this tastes.

Super Healing Green Smoothie Recipe

2 C Baby Organic Spinach (Mature spinach can get stringy, and buy organic because spinach is on the dirty dozen list for pesticides.)

1 – 2 C Hot Filtered Water

One Banana

2 T Chia Seeds

2 T Flax Seeds

1 Scoop Protein Powder (I am loving Warrior Blend Raw Vegan Vanilla and Jay Robb Egg White Protein Vanilla Powders. Neither of these has that unfortunate chalky taste.)

½ Avocado

1 Scoop of Coconut Cream (Trader Joe’s sells it. It is also fabulous in coffee and Chai tea, if you are looking for a dairy alternative.)

Stevia, only if you find it on the green side and need some sweetness

Put spinach in the blender and pour hot water over the leaves. Let steam for approximately 2 minutes and then add the remaining ingredients. Because of the chia seeds and avocado, this can be quite thick, so add more water until it is the perfect consistency for you. If you find drinking a warm smoothie odd, put it in a bowl and eat it with a spoon. Think of it as a comforting bowl of oatmeal.

Enjoy and let me know if you like it.

Sending radiant green love your way.
