Fish Oil and Curcumin: Natural Remedies for Joint Pain

I attended an incredibly eye opening retreat last week with Jack Canfield, and I am in the process of writing about it, but so many amazing shifts occurred that I have to wrap my brain around all the information.

I was explaining my story, blog and book to Jack and he referred to me as an “aggregator,” which I thought was an interesting way to think of some of the things I do. One of my dearest friends always says to me, “Just give me the summary of all that self-help stuff you read. I don’t have time to read a whole book.”

Admittedly, I am a curious seeker on the self-inquiry path and sharing the things that have helped my journey is what I love to do.

I am a storehouse of useful, and odd, information. Just the other day I illuminated my friend with the knowledge that you can purchase GT Dave’s Kombucha in bulk at Von’s, which she thought was amazing. It’s not life changing, but when you can save a dollar a bottle it seems noteworthy.

I have written before about the incredible toll that stress exacted on my body, and that I wishI had been more aware of resources to combat the chemical cascade of hormones. Kelly McGonigal’s TED talk gave me a new way to think about stress, and meditation has been an incredible source of finding calm amidst the storm.

About a month ago, I started to notice pain in my joints, particularly my elbow and knees. It has been intermittent over the last couple years (I think of it as adrenaline rust) and but suddenly became constant and unbearable. Damn stress. Frustrated, I went to Pharmaca, my favorite pharmacy, (a great resource if there is one near you) and spoke to one of their knowledgeable staff who recommended two products:

I didn’t expect any miracles, but within a week I noticed a huge difference and I can honestly say now that I have no pain.

I have waxed poetic here about the magical anti-inflammatory properties of turmeric, and I have incorporated it into my diet in a variety of ways, but adding it in enhanced supplement form has made all the difference. I take one Meriva-500 capsule in the morning and one in the evening. From Thorne Research:

I don’t know if you have ever tried to take fish oil, but here is my experience: fish oil pills seem dauntingly gigantic and because I don’t like them, I generally “forget” to take them. Then there is the lemon-flavored liquid that leaves the oily lemon aftertaste, which again leaves a lot to be desired.

This fish oil by Pharmax is incredibly light, almost like water, and has a very mild orange flavor. One teaspoon, morning and night is all that is required. I have been amazed by the results.

If you are suffering from joint pain, or are just feeling hormonally rusty from an over abundance of stress, these products might provide you with the relief you seek. Overall, I am experiencing a more fluid sense of mobility.
