Finding Your Authentic Voice

In my last post, I posed the questions, “Was there an event that dampened your curiosity in childhood,” and, “What effect did it have on your life?” These inquiries came from my own exploration of the effect that forbidden curiosity had on my life.

As a result of a rather impactful event, I lost the sense of having a voice at the age of ten and it has been awaiting my rediscovery ever since.

I have always thought of myself as being a loud person, but when I reflect on many of my interactions, I have been asked over and over to “speak up,” “project more” and “talk to the back of the room.” It happened in Toastmasters and many of the seminars I have participated in. It always surprises me.

More recently, in the No More Pain workshop I blogged about, the leader made the statement that perhaps I had not, “connected with my inner child and given her permission to speak up as a adult.” I had to think about that for a while, but when I had the insight about my curious ten-year old self being squashed, well, it all began to make sense.

Having lived a major portion of my life in a quasi-mute mode, I am now trying to find a way to turn up the volume on my heart and say what needs to be spoken.

When I look at the effects of not having a voice, I see it leads down a path to feeling helpless, angry and bitter (I hate to admit that I’ve spun around in that vortex.) This state of voicelessness can lead us to speaking from the weakest part of our being, and using words as weapons to harm others.

At it ugliest, being voiceless can lead to entitlement, that most unfortunate place where we feel justified to lie, cheat or steal as a way to garner some worth. And, stewing in the low vibrational energies of envy, jealousy and anger, we summon the toxic hormonal chemicals that conjure up dis-ease.

On the flip side, when we claim and honor our voice, we connect with a magnetic force that graces us with an definite edge in life. We are easy to love because our boundaries are crystal clear, and there is no mistaking where we begin and end. Another human being can find safety in our presence – always knowing where they stand and how we feel about them.

Because we are aligned with our best self, life is infinitely easier. We are fully expressed, hopeful and living on purpose. In this high vibrational state, healthy hormones flow through our veins, creating optimal well-being and health.

It might be possible that living from a place of authentic expression is the ultimate form of self-care.

If you feel voiceless in your life, what are small steps you might take to turn the volume up on what wants to be said in your heart? Choose one thing you have wanted to say for the longest time and practice saying it out loud to yourself until you build up the courage to let your authentic voice be heard – out loud.

I would love to hear how you are wielding this superpower to create a life that expresses the truth of your soul.

As always, I am sending love and light your way.
